Project 1: Ring
Project 2: Hinge
This project was based on my mixed-race heritage and how society often tries to perceive me as one race over the other without acknowledging that I am both Black and White. It was initially supposed to be a locket, and when it opened, it showed that when people get to know me, they realize that I am a combination of both heritages. Due to complications I later chose to combine the two sides into matching earrings.
Project 3: Wax Cast Brooch
This project was supposed to focus on a childhood memory or an award that we wished we had won. I decided to base it off of the "Together in Paris" Necklace from the 1997 animated movie "Anastasia", as that was one of my favorite movies growing up. In the movie, the main character, Anastasia, goes on a journey to discover her lost past and find her purpose. As a child, I always wanted to understand what my purpose is, so the brooch was a metal to say, "You did it! You found your purpose!", being that I wanted to grow up to become a well-known fashion designer.
Project 4: Earrings
The last project was supposed to be based on a favorite holiday memory of ours, so I decided to make earrings that told the story of my sister and I making cookies for the first time. We wanted to make some Christmas cookies for our parents by ourselves. When they were finished, they looked adorable, as we had decorated them with icing and sprinkles. Unfortunately, as soon as we bit into them, we realized that we accidentally put a whole tablespoon of salt, rather than the teaspoon that the recipe called for! The earrings are based on a photo of the original cookies on a cookie tray. We had to avoid common holiday iconography, which is why some cookies do not match the earrings.
