1550s-1580s Italian Renaissance Costume
This is an Italian Renaissance Costume that I was tasked with making for an Honors Project. I took an existing Simplicity Pattern: S9090 and I reconstructed it to make it more historically accurate. I completely reconstructed the sleeves to include the historical slashes. The back originally called for a zipper, and I replaced that with a corset. I separated the bodice and the skirt and added an additional layer in the back, which was completely draped. I added trim around the skirt and the entire garment is lined. The costume is held together by ties for historical accuracy, so there are no zippers, buttons, or additional closures. I also made arm bands and reconstructed an existing headband to make the headpiece. The pearl decoration features were bought, as was the crinoline underneath.
