Study Abroad - Central Saint Martins, England - July 2023
While I was at Central Saint Martins, we were tasked with gaining inspiration from London and creating a garment. We were not allowed to use machines, so the garment was entirely sewn by hand. I also embroidered a panel by hand as well. It focused on the contrasting paradox of my heritage and how on my Dad's side we can be traced back to the 800s England and royalty, but on my Mom's side, a lot is unknown because the effects of slavery in America. Ultimately, this piece utilizes roses and hidden symbolism to exemplify these ideas of dichotomy within my mixed heritage.
